‘Babri Masjid’ Remark Sparks Political Heat in Bengal

25 Apr 2026 Zinkpot

Shah’s Strong Statement: “Won’t Allow Construction”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a strong political statement during election rallies in West Bengal, saying that as long as even one BJP worker is alive in the state, no mosque resembling the Babri Masjid will be allowed to be constructed. His remarks have intensified the political narrative ahead of the assembly elections.

 Trigger of the Controversy
The issue stems from a proposal in the Beldanga area of Murshidabad, where a suspended TMC leader and former MLA reportedly demanded the construction of a mosque similar in structure to the Babri Masjid. Shah termed this move a “deliberate attempt to create unrest and polarization”, accusing the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) of indirectly supporting such agendas.

 Targeting Mamata Banerjee
Shah directly targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that her government is backing controversial figures for political gains. He described the involved leader as an “agent” of the ruling party and claimed that such strategies are aimed at consolidating vote banks through divisive politics.

Focus on Illegal Immigration & Security
The Home Minister also raised concerns over illegal immigration and border security, accusing the state government of providing protection to infiltrators. He promised that if the BJP comes to power, steps like rapid border fencing and strict action against illegal entrants would be implemented within a fixed timeframe to strengthen national security.

 Jobs, Development & Governance Pitch
Shah criticized the TMC government over unemployment, using sharp phrases to attack its governance. He emphasized that the youth of Bengal need real job opportunities and development, not political manipulation. BJP, he said, would focus on transparent recruitment and economic growth.

 Election Context and Impact
The West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 are being held in two phases (April 23 and 29), with results scheduled for May 4. Shah’s statement indicates BJP’s strategy to combine religious sentiment, security concerns, and development issues to influence voters.
