Supply Remains Normal with Record Distribution
The government has assured that despite ongoing tensions in West Asia, LPG supply across the country remains completely stable. Over 5.2 million cylinders are being distributed daily, which is sufficient to meet regular demand. Distributors have adequate stock, ensuring no shortage situation. With digital systems in place, 98% of bookings are done online, and around 93% of deliveries are completed successfully, indicating a smooth supply chain.
Panic Buying Increases Demand but Stock is Safe
In recent days, panic buying by consumers has led to a sudden spike in LPG bookings. However, the government clarified that this surge is temporary and does not reflect an actual shortage. Stock levels remain normal, and there is no cause for concern. Consumers have been advised to avoid unnecessary bookings and purchase only as needed.
70% Increase in Commercial LPG Allocation
To support industries, the government has increased commercial LPG allocation by up to 70%. Key sectors such as steel, automobile, and textiles are being prioritized to ensure uninterrupted production. Refineries are operating at maximum capacity, and storage levels across the country remain adequate.
Strict Action Against Hoarding and Black Marketing
To prevent hoarding and black marketing, authorities have taken strict measures. More than 6,000 raids have been conducted nationwide, and over 1,000 cylinders have been seized. Booking intervals have also been regulated—set at 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas—to ensure fair distribution among consumers.
Managing Impact of Global Crisis
The Strait of Hormuz crisis has impacted nearly 60% of India’s LPG imports. Despite this, the government has balanced supply by increasing domestic production and sourcing imports from alternative suppliers such as the United States. While freight costs have risen, the overall supply chain remains unaffected.
Outlook and Government Appeal
Experts suggest that global conditions may take 1 to 12 months to stabilize. Even so, the government has reassured citizens that there will be no shortage of LPG. Consumers are urged to remain calm and rely on online booking systems, avoiding panic-driven demand.
