28 Apr 2026 Zinkpot

Announcement and Objective
Delhi Government has announced a special pilgrimage under the “Somnath Swabhiman Parv,” enabling around 1,300 devotees to visit the Somnath Temple. The initiative marks 1,000 years of enduring faith and aims to reconnect people with India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

Travel Plan and Arrangements
The journey will begin on April 30 from Safdarjung Railway Station via a special train. The three-day trip (May 1–3) includes darshan at the Somnath Jyotirlinga and visits to nearby religious sites. The Government of Gujarat will provide food, accommodation, and essential facilities, ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience for pilgrims.

Religious and Historical Significance
The Somnath Temple is one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas and holds immense historical importance. Rekha Gupta described the initiative as a tribute to unwavering faith that remained strong even after the 1026 invasion by Mahmud of Ghazni. The pilgrimage offers both spiritual fulfillment and historical insight.

Social and Cultural Impact
Such initiatives promote cultural awareness and religious unity, especially for those who may not otherwise afford such journeys. It also reflects cooperative efforts between states, encouraging cultural exchange and strengthening national integration.
