Ganga Expressway Connecting 12 Districts: Full Detailed Overview

29 Apr 2026 Zinkpot

Project Overview
The Ganga Expressway is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Uttar Pradesh, spanning approximately 594 kilometers. It is a 6-lane (expandable to 8 lanes) greenfield expressway connecting Meerut to Prayagraj. Built at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore, the project has been developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). It aims to provide fast, seamless connectivity between western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, significantly improving the state’s transportation network.

Route and Connectivity
The expressway starts from Bijoli village in Meerut and ends at Judapur Dandu in Prayagraj, passing through 12 districts and around 519 villages. These districts include Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. This corridor will enhance regional connectivity and also link important locations like Haridwar and Jewar Airport, boosting tourism and trade activities across the region.

Major Reduction in Travel Time
One of the biggest advantages of the Ganga Expressway is the reduction in travel time. Earlier, the journey from Meerut to Prayagraj used to take around 10–12 hours. With this expressway, the same distance can now be covered in just 6–7 hours. This will not only save time for travelers but also improve the efficiency of goods transportation, reducing logistics costs and benefiting businesses.

Key Features and Facilities
The Ganga Expressway has been designed with modern engineering and high safety standards. It includes major bridges over the Ganga and Ramganga rivers, along with 381 underpasses, 14 major bridges, 126 minor bridges, and 929 culverts. The expressway is access-controlled, ensuring regulated entry and exit for better traffic management. It also features high-tech toll collection systems and speed monitoring mechanisms, making it a smart and safe highway.

Inauguration and Significance
The expressway is being inaugurated on April 29, 2026, in Hardoi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This project is not just a road but a high-speed transport corridor that will transform connectivity across Uttar Pradesh. It marks a significant step toward modern infrastructure development in the state.

Impact on Uttar Pradesh’s Economy
The Ganga Expressway is expected to act as a major driver of economic growth in Uttar Pradesh. It will promote the development of industrial and logistics hubs, generate employment opportunities, and enable faster movement of agricultural produce to markets. Additionally, it will boost tourism and attract real estate and business investments, contributing to overall economic expansion.

Environmental and Modern Planning
Being a greenfield project, the expressway has been planned with modern design and environmental considerations. Green belts and large-scale plantation initiatives are part of the project to maintain ecological balance. Controlled traffic flow and improved road design are also expected to reduce pollution and accidents, supporting sustainable development.
