Incident Overview
In Katni district of Madhya Pradesh, a disturbing incident came to light on April 27, 2026, after a road accident victim, Rahul Barman, was transported to the district hospital in a 108 ambulance. What followed at the hospital sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about the behavior of emergency medical staff.
Details of the Incident
After the accident in Karela village, Rahul Barman was taken to Katni District Hospital. During the journey, the ambulance got stained with the patient’s blood. Allegedly, the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Mohit Khatik and the ambulance pilot showed insensitivity by asking the patient’s wife, Pramila Barman, to clean the ambulance herself.
At the hospital gate, Pramila was seen pouring water from a bucket and cleaning the ambulance while others watched. The entire incident was recorded and later went viral on social media.
Viral Video and Public Reaction
As the video spread online, it triggered strong reactions from the public. Many people condemned the act as inhumane and unacceptable, especially considering that the family was already dealing with a traumatic situation. The incident led to widespread criticism of the healthcare system’s handling of patients and their families.
Administrative Action
Taking the matter seriously, the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Katni, Dr. Raj Singh Thakur, ordered an immediate inquiry. After confirming violations of rules and inhumane conduct, both the ambulance pilot and the EMT were dismissed from their duties.
Systemic Concerns
This incident highlights the importance of empathy and professionalism in emergency healthcare services. Ambulance services are meant to provide urgent care and support, not add to the distress of patients and their families. The case raises concerns about accountability and the need for better training and oversight in such critical services.
