Major Announcement
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on April 27, 2026, in Lucknow that Uttar Pradesh will recruit 1 lakh police personnel this year. He also confirmed that over 57,000 candidates have already completed training and joined the force. Additionally, appointment letters were distributed to 936 telecom recruits.
Scope of Recruitment
This large-scale recruitment drive covers multiple positions, including civil police, sub-inspectors (SI), and home guards. The initiative aims to expand the police workforce and provide employment opportunities to a large number of youth across the state.
Examination and Selection Process
The recruitment process has been conducted on a massive scale. Exams for over 41,000 home guard posts were held between April 25 and 27, with around 2.5 million candidates participating across 1,053 centers in 73 districts.
In addition, 60,244 constables have successfully completed their training. The government emphasized that the entire process was conducted in a cheating-free and transparent manner.
Opportunities for Women
As part of the recruitment drive, 20% of the positions have been reserved for women. This step aims to increase female participation in the police force and strengthen inclusive policing in the state.
Future Plans
The state government has set a target of providing 2 lakh government jobs over the next two years. The Chief Minister highlighted that before 2017, only about 3,000 police personnel were trained annually, whereas now the number has increased significantly, reflecting the scale of expansion in law enforcement capacity.
