DATA ON SPICES EXPORTS

1. Value and Growth: India's spice exports reached $4.72 billion in FY 2024-25, a 6% increase from $4.46 billion in FY 2023-24, marking a record high. In the first half (April-September 2024), exports were valued at ₹17,488 crore ($2.09 billion), up 8.8% from ₹16,065 crore ($1.95 billion) the previous year.

2. Export Goal: The target for FY 2024-25 is $4.7 billion, with an ambitious goal of $10 billion by 2030 and reach $25 billion by 2047, leveraging its position as the largest producer and exporter of spices and requiring production to reach approximately 15 million tonnes.
3. Volume: In FY 2023-24, India exported 1.54 million metric tons, and FY 2024-25 is expected to maintain or exceed this volume.
4. Major Spices: Chilli (516,000 metric tons), cumin, turmeric, coriander, and cardamom are the top exported spices, with chilli alone accounting for $1.3 billion in FY 2023-24. Other Notable Spices: Black pepper, ginger, fennel, mustard, spice oils, and oleoresins are also significant.
5. Top Destinations: The United States ($42 billion INR in FY 2023), Bangladesh, UAE, China, Sri Lanka, the UK, Germany, and Thailand are key markets. India exports to over 200 countries.
6. Regional Focus: Strong demand from the Middle East, Europe, and North America, with growing markets in Asia and Africa.
7. Production: Estimated at 11.9 million metric tons in FY 2024-25, down 4% from the previous year due to declines in nutmeg (-24%) and cumin (-34%).

Despite a decline in chilli exports by 11% to $1.34 billion due to lower prices, overall export volumes grew. Cumin exports rose 5% to $732.35 million, turmeric surged 51% to $341 million, spice oils/oleoresins increased 8% to $535.92 million, and pepper exports grew 40% to $124.54 million.
