Single Teacher Indian schools, Multiple problems!

DEFINITION

 

Single Teacher schools refer to the schools where a single teacher teaches all the subjects. According to Ministry of Education (2024–25) data, Over 33 lakh students across the country are enrolled in more than 1 lakh single-teacher schools.

Why Are Single-Teacher Schools a Problem?

  1. One teacher handles all subjects and all classes lowers the quality of education and knowledge.
  2. Poor student learning outcomes are observed as teacher can not give best in all the subjects.
  3. The classes are crowded and therefore it is also a violation of Right to Education (RTE) Act (required 30:1 ratio)
