Prime Minister Narendra Modi's five-nation tour, spanning July 2 to July 9, 2025, covers Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, marking his longest diplomatic trip in over a decade. The tour aims to strengthen India's ties with the Global South, focusing on trade, energy, defense, and cultural connections.
In Ghana (July 2-3), Modi’s historic visit—the first by an Indian PM in over 30 years—focused on deepening bilateral ties. He held talks with President John Dramani Mahama, addressed Ghana’s Parliament, visited the Nkrumah Memorial and Black Star Square, and interacted with the Indian diaspora of about 15,000. India and Ghana signed multiple pacts, aiming to double two-way trade in five years, with India positioned as a partner in Ghana’s development in health, agriculture, and digital infrastructure. Modi was conferred Ghana’s national honor, 'The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana.'
In Trinidad and Tobago (July 3-4), Modi’s visit, the first by an Indian PM since 1999, emphasizes historical and cultural ties, as 40-45% of the population is of Indian descent. He will meet President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, addressing a joint session of Parliament to highlight shared democratic values. The visit coincides with the 180th anniversary of Indian arrival in Trinidad and Tobago, aiming to boost cooperation in education, health, and climate resilience.
The tour continues to Argentina (July 4-5) for talks on energy and mineral collaboration, Brazil (July 5-8) for the BRICS Summit to promote a multipolar world order, and Namibia (July 9) to enhance bilateral ties. The visit underscores India’s diplomatic push across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, reinforcing economic and strategic partnership.
